Mrs. Johns ELA Class

Parents and Students,

Welcome to your 8th Grade ELA or English 1 class at C.E. Williams! My name is Bonnie Johns. I am so glad to be beginning my 6th year at C.E. Williams!

Just a little about me:
I am from small-town North Carolina. I began my higher education journey by attending a small liberal arts college by the name of Lenoir-Rhyne. Here I received my Bachelor's Degree in English Education. I then attended Appalachian State University where I earned my Masters Degree in Reading Education. I have been in a variety of classrooms ranging from alternative settings, to high school, and now to C.E. My first several years at C.E. I served as the Master Reading Teacher, but was excited to make the change to ELA and English 1 last year.

What you can expect:
I expect a lot from my students. As students prepare for high school next year, I feel that more and more of the responsibility for learning lies on student shoulders. This year, I will expect students to take responsibility for their work, good or bad, do their best, and ask for help when needed, and take an interest in getting the most from thier education.
I hope to challenge each of my students with the texts we read, the activities that we will complete in class, and at home. Students can expect:
-Regular vocabulary assignments
-Individual Reading Assignments
-Writing assignments
-A supportive and encouraging environment
As parents, you can expect my support with your child's education and receptiveness to your concerns as we enter this new year. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.
