Personal Pathways to success.
The South Carolina Education and Economic Development Act gives students the opportunity to attend high schools that offer the career cluster of their choice. Charleston County School District promotes these opportunities through the Pathways Magnet Program. Current eighth graders, who will be promoted to the ninth grade, and current ninth grade students can transfer to a high school within their "Pathway Zone" that offers their career cluster if that cluster is not offered in their neighborhood high school.
CE Williams Middle School for Creative and Scientific Arts 2006-2007 Arrival and Dismissal
School Day Begins: 8:35 AM School Day Ends: 4:07 PM
In an effort to expedite the arrival and dismissal of over 700 children, we have formulated the following plan: ARRIVAL
Car Riders: Students may begin to arrive at school at 8:35 AM. Cars will approach CE Williams by turning on to McLeod Road from Highway #17. The cars will proceed down McLeod to the CEW parking area and the student drop-off point at the end of the building. They will then make a wide left turn and exit via McLeod to Highway #17.
Buses: Buses will enter also from Highway #17 at McLeod. They will turn left on to Bolton Road and then right on to Butte Street and drop the students at the front entrance to CEW. The buses will then leave by Butte Street and turn left on to Marginal Road to Highway #17.
6th grade students will gather at the entrance close to the football field; 7th and 8th grade students will gather in the field by the faculty parking area. Both areas will be supervised beginning at 8:35 AM. Students who arrive at school before 8:35 AM must remain with their parents until 8:35 AM or may join the Kaleidoscope program in the cafeteria. To sign up for Kaleidoscope, please call Ms. Inman at 763-5950
DISMISSAL
Car Riders: Cars will approach CEW from McLeod Road and line up single-file parallel to the building between the two Visitor Parking areas. Students will get into their cars, and the cars will exit by making a wide left turn and returning to Highway #17 via McLeod. Once the special education buses have left, cars may exit left onto Butte Street. PLEASE, DO NOT PARK AND WALK TO GET YOUR CHILD. We have these procedures in place to insure personal safety and fairness.
Buses: The buses will approach CEW from McLeod and Bolton Roads and line up in front of the CEW circle. Once the students are loaded, the buses will return to Highway #17 via Marginal Road.
Because CE Williams Middle School is located within a neighborhood with limited access, I encourage everyone to use the bus services provided by Durham Bus Service. If you have any problems with your childs bus service, please call 745-7084 and ask for Michael Wrighten. I am confident that the bus service is the most efficient way for your child to get “to” and “from” school safely and quickly.
Although we have developed this plan with help from the Charleston Police Department and CCSD’s transportation office, it will take longer for us to move cars in and out than the buses. Therefore, I ask that you please consider carefully the transportation option offered by Durham Bus Service.
PARENTS - GOOD NEWS ABOUT ECHALK!!! You do NOT have to log in to your childs account to view his/her assignments, class work or homework IF their teacher has made the assignments public to the internet. Simply go to the website, williams.ccsdschools.com, then click on the class pages link located on the right. Peterson's Points
The 2007-2008 school year is entering the 4th and final term, and there is still much academic work to be done. Students are now immersed in the final MAP testing segment, and it is very important that each child do his/her very best, for the scores are strong indicators of PACT performance and may direct class placement for the coming school year. PACT testing begins May 13, 2007 and will take five school days to complete: May 13 and 14 will be ELA; May 15 will be mathematics; May 20 will be social studies or science; and May 22 will be a field test day. The importance of the testing program is immense, for results from the PACT tests will help determine placement in academic classes for next year and will be used to assess the effectiveness of the educational program at CE Williams Middle School. Therefore, we ask that the children take the PACT testing seriously, work hard with their teachers during the coming weeks, and prepare for each day with a good night's sleep, the proper uniform, and a good breakfast. Once the PACT testing has been concluded, students will enjoy a variety of field experiences designed by the teachers, field day late in May for all grades the 8th Grade dance and the 8th Grade Awards Assembly on June 3rd at 7:00 PM. 6th and 7th Grade Awards" Assemblies will be held June 4th and 5th during the school day. The last of days of school for this year will be June 4th and 5th, and they will be half days with dismissal around 12:00 noon. (The actual dismissal times will be announced as soon as we know them.) Additional Dates to note include the following:
April 14: Huntington Learning Center will be at CEW 3:00 5:30 PM in the Media Center to share their services with interested parents/students.
April 16: Clean Cities Sweep: 4:00 - 6:00 PM
April 21: Open House for rising 6th graders: 5:00- 6:15 PM May 26: Memorial Day - No School June 16 July 25: CCSD Summer School
This has been a really good year for CE Williams Middle School, and I am confident that the PACT testing and the close of the year will be equally positive and purposeful. Thank you all for supporting your students and for encouraging them to work hard every day at school. Please remember that CE Williams MS will continue to welcome you during the school day; however, we do ask that you stop by the main office and sign in. If we can help you or your child in any way, please contact us at 763-1529. Judith A Peterson
