Excellence in Career and Technology Education (CTE)
The C.E. Williams South Career Technology Education (CTE) Program continues to flourish, offering innovative and hands-on learning opportunities through Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Medical Detectives and PLTW Flight & Space.
Under the leadership of Ms. Julie Bamberg, PLTW students engage in rigorous scientific investigations, including the dissection of sheep brains and additional high-level STEM activities.
This year, the Flight & Space class launched an exciting project through the Growing Beyond Earth (GBE) initiative, simulating plant growth under International Space Station conditions. Students are conducting a 28-day research study to answer the question: “What is the effect of companion planting selected crops under our simulated ISS conditions?”
The experiment features fennel and red amaranth, with students collecting daily and weekly data that is submitted directly to an online portal, contributing to current NASA research.
South Carolina Students Shine in NASA’s Plant the Moon Challenge
CEWS students earned outstanding statewide and international recognition in the 2025 NASA Plant the Moon Challenge, coordinated by the South Carolina Space Grant Consortium.
Among all middle school entries across the state, three CEWS teams earned Middle School Best in Show honors:
These honors celebrate exceptional scientific design, experimental execution, data analysis, and creative problem-solving. CEWS is proud to see its students contributing meaningfully to a global STEM initiative advancing research in lunar agriculture.
